In order for PDXCC to reamian the best place for the local Portland car scene of whats going on and where, I am turning the publishing responsibilities over to David Jothen. Many of you may already know David and if you don't he is eager to meet you. David has a 1955 Chevy he drives to shows and cruise-ins as well as enters the 55 in some indoor shows as well. As a matter of fact David's 55 is on the promotional poster for the Salem Roadster Show, which is next weekend.

David is deeply involved in his car club the Pharaohs Street Rodders, an accomplished photographer, and a successful business man. Dave is very excited to be involved in PDXCC and is looking forward to making PDXCC the authority on the Portland automotive scene.

Last weekend I was at the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona California. The 27 Ford Roadster above is the winner of the America's Most Beautiful Roadster. The car is owned by Bill Lindig and was finished by the skillful crew at So-Cal Speed Shop in Pomona.

It has been a number of years since I have attended the GNRS, as a matter of fact the last time I went to the show was in 2003. Back then the show was held in San Mateo, California and most people called it the Oakland Roadster Show. But it is known to all as "The Grand Daddy of Them All" and the show which kicks off the car show season and crowns one roadster as America's Most Beautiful.

7 Buildings full of cars, outdoor vendors as well as indoor vendors, and with an outdoor cruise in on Saturday and Sunday there is no shortage of cars. One building was dedicated to the 80th Anniversary of the 1932 Ford, showcasing 80 Deuces from all over.

Tuesday, August 16, 2011, over 200 unique classic cars converged on the quaint town of Carmel, for a highly organized car show know as Concour on the Avenue. 2011, will go down in history as the largest gathering of automobiles for this show since its inception in 2007. Produced by Doug & Genie Freedman, this is truly an amazing car show

This is considered by some as the kick off for Monterey Week. Spectators can come to Ocean Avenue and be treated to some outstanding and rare rolling works of art. As with any car show, conversation is encouraged. The owners of these cars are anxious to share the stories about their cars. You will find race cars, classic sports cars, American muscle cars, hot rods, and even a vintage Ford tractor.

The Allure of the Automobile

Automobiles are a very important part of modern day life. However they mean different things to different people. There are collectors, builders, restorers, customizers, drivers, and probably most commonly admirers.

The title of the exhibit at the Portland Art Museum, “The Allure of the Automobile,” suggests a fantasy like experience. In my opinion, that is just what you get. The cars on display are truly works of art, taking the viewer back in time to a very different place of form and function. Don’t expect to see a lot of cars here, this is quality over quantity. There are only 16 cars, but they will not disappoint you.

The automobile gave freedom, independence, to some the car you drive is a reflection of who you are and your personality. The cars you covet, are a reflection of your passion. I am very passionate about all types of cars. I like to see the beauty in the design, to hear the roar of the engine, and the feeling of cruising down any open road with the window down is a perfect day.

I highly suggest you visit the Portland Art Museum, between June 11th and September 11th, and answer this question; “What does the allure of the automobile mean to you?” I also suggest you share this experience with someone interested in automobiles, or introduce the younger generation to these iconic machines. -Jeff (The full album is posted on facebook, www.facebook.com/pdxcarculture)
