Portland Transmission Spring Classic
The Portland Transmission Warehouse Spring Classic car show is this Saturday. At this point the weather forecasters are predicting some decent weather. This has always been a good show, so they don't really change anything from one year to the next. Why mess with success? So you can count on it to be a good show again this year.
I've always said this is one of the events you don't want to miss. It's still early in the year, but not so early that a lot of people haven't had time to get their cars out of hibernation or finished off the last detail before starting to show it.
As you can tell from the pictures of last year's show, there is a great variety of vehicles. Along with the usual hot rods and customs, there are classics, muscle cars, trucks, motorcycles, military vehicles, some race cars, sports and exotics, movie cars, and more.
Last year they corralled a bunch of woodies right up in the warehouse parking lot. I haven't heard what will be there this year, but get there early because it gets crowded in the lot.
Back out on the streets the cars are more spread out, so there's plenty of room to gawk, visit with others, and even get some decent photos. Comfortable shoes for walking are good here, because the streets are filled with cars for blocks around.
Some of the parking lots of businesses around the show are also filled with cars. Sometimes they have a particular theme, like in the first photo up at the top. But most of the lots have a variety.
There seem to be a few more motorcycles at a lot of the car shows each year. The Spring Classic is no exception, but I do see bikes there not seen elsewhere. There is actually a large culture of vintage and custom motorcycles around Portland and the Northwest, and it's good to see some of them coming out to the car shows. Be watching for a lot more in the coming years.
I almost missed this Fiat Dino Spider last year because it was parked just outside the area. What a treat, as the rare times I've spotted one in the past they've always been thrashed.
A Saleen S7 sharing space with conventional hot rods. That should tell you what the Spring Classic is all about. A lot of the usual rods, classics, and muscle cars. Then a little of everything else.
This is just a small sample of what you'll find at the Portland Transmission Spring Classic. Registration is at 6:30 am when it's still sleepy around Portland, and the show starts at 7:00. It's a no cost event open to everyone. Everything wraps up at 11:00 am, when a lot of folks run out to Cornelius to see the Davis collection at the Papa's Toys Open House. More about that in the next post. You can check out the details for both shows on the EVENTS page, and the posters are on the FLYERS page.
